Electronic Calibration Technician (Level II)

Reports To: Lab Manager

Job Summary:

Tra-Cal laboratory is actively seeking an Electronic Calibration Technician (Level II) to help support our
rapidly growing team. If you are looking to grow your professional and technical capability, and progress

Tra-Cal is an ISO/IEC 17025-2017, ANSI Z540-1/ Z540.3 accredited calibration lab in Gaithersburg, MD and 30 minutes from Washington D.C. NSCA is our test and measurement equipment sales and rental business. We serve critically important customers including NASA, the Department of Defense, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Raytheon, WMATA (D.C. metro) and hundreds of others. We have one of the most expansive scopes of accreditation in the region which enables us to serve diverse equipment and customers. No day in the Tra-Cal lab is the same. Our technicians are challenged to work on different equipment daily, perform onsite calibrations, and learn new technical disciplines. We are proudly Veteran owned and

Our President is a former Army Green Beret and our lab manager served 25 years as a calibration technician in the Air Force before joining Tra-Cal in 2011. Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to maintaining the calibration database, the accredited status of the laboratory by
    following documented procedures, the current documentation necessary for audits, and to the
    design and improvement initiatives of our business and workflow processes.

  • Participate in monitoring customer equipment & workflow – Maintain the status of all customer
    test equipment using the Fluke MET/TEAM system. Utilize daily reports to guide assignments
    and corresponding activity. Interface with the Lab Manager to determine where operating
    conflicts may occur and work to prevent/remedy those conflicts.

  • Perform Technical Work – Using calibration standards, ISO/ANSI guidelines, manufacturers
    procedures, other laboratory equipment and tools. Perform evaluation, calibration, repair,
    upgrade, cleaning, and maintenance to customers and (occasionally) in-house test instruments.

  • Troubleshoot and Repair – Document and communicate issues, collaborate with the Laboratory
    Manager to troubleshoot equipment issues and resolve problems, both technical and operational.

  • Participate in Maintaining the Calibration Database (Fluke MET/TEAM) – Capture all equipment
    status and movement within the system, as well as detailed data regarding calibration results.
    Assist the staff in the proper use and control of the database.

  • Manage customer expectations and ensures customer satisfaction – Proactively seek and
    understand our customer’s needs, actively set and manage their expectations, and ensure that our
    end result meets or exceeds their needs. Constructively act upon any shortcomings by engaging
    customer contacts and our NSCA & Tra-Cal organization to resolve any open issues.

  • Perform on-site calibrations (when applicable), repairs and maintain test equipment at customer
    facilities.

  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of NSCA & Tra-Cal as well as governing body
    guidelines and regulations for standards of excellence and certification status when performing
    duties.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a valid driver's license

  • High school diploma or GED

  • 3 years of working experience on RF system/module/CCA

  • 3 years experience using RF Test Equipment (Spectrum Analyzer, Vector Network Analyzers,
    Power Meter, Signal Analyzer, etc.)

  • Proficient with Windows, Microsoft Office, Internet applications, and strong Excel skills

  • Strong customer service skills

  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree in Electronics or PMEL Training.

  • Electronics/Metrology degree

  • Experience in the calibration of Test Equipment (RF Power Sensors and Meters, RF Generators,
    Spectrum Analyzers, VNA, Attenuators, Phase modulation, AM/FM distortion)

  • Experience - 5 or more years of career-level experience in industry, with two or more of those years interfacing with industrial customers, and showing progressive growth of responsibility.

  • Experience working with ISO/IEC 17025 is highly preferred.

  • Exposure - Practical understanding and working knowledge of calibration and repair of general- purpose test equipment. This knowledge would optimally consist of, but not be limited to, Low to High Frequency Spectrum Analyzers, Low to High Frequency Signal Generators, DMM’s of all types, Logic Analyzers, Low to High Frequency Network Analyzers, Optical Test Equipment and Multi-Function Calibrators. Experience in Torque and Dimensional Calibration will be a plus. An ability to read schematics and blueprints and repair test equipment from them is required. The ability to interpret manufacturers’ specifications and generate calibration procedures and data sheets is a necessity.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.

  • Must be willing to travel onsite to service our customers within the D.C., Maryland, Virginia region.
